GLENDALE, CA — Councilwoman Elen Asatryan has earned the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley, recognizing her unwavering commitment to protecting reproductive freedom, expanding access to care, and standing up for the health and rights of all residents.
A lifelong advocate for reproductive rights and gender equity, Asatryan has dedicated over two decades to advancing policies and programs that empower women, support families, and protect underserved communities. She has been a consistent champion of Planned Parenthood and its priorities, advocating for access to health services, abortion rights, and comprehensive reproductive care, while amplifying public education around women’s health in her community.
As a proven leader with 26 years of policy and advocacy experience, and as the first Armenian woman to serve as Mayor of Glendale, Asatryan has built a track record of tangible accomplishments, including:
Expanding the role and impact of Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women after a three-year effort to restore and strengthen its authority.
Led the initiative to secure family leave for employees and introduced exploring menstrual leave.
Launching the City’s Women’s Fire Academy to create pathways for women in public safety and addressing underrepresentation in the fire department.
Guiding Glendale to become one of the first cities in California to sign the Equal Pay Pledge.
Establishing scholarships, training programs, and initiatives to retain and promote women employees in city government.
Advancing city programming recognizing Women’s History Month, Women’s Equality Day, and other initiatives that celebrate women’s leadership.
Mentoring and recruiting women and young girls into advocacy, public service, and leadership roles over the past two decades.
Partnering with organizations including YWCA Glendale, NARAL, and NOW to educate the community on reproductive health, abortion access, and gender equity.
“PP Advocates proudly endorses Councilwoman Elen Asatryan’s re-election to the Glendale City Council,” said Juliana Serrano, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley. “Councilwoman Asatryan has demonstrated her dedication to protecting and expanding access to reproductive health care in Glendale and has the wholehearted support of PP Advocates.”
“I’m deeply honored to receive this endorsement from our local Planned Parenthood team,” Councilwoman Asatryan said. “For many, Planned Parenthood is the only source of vital health care. Over 90% of their services are lifesaving preventive care, including PAP tests, breast exams, cancer screenings, STI treatment, and birth control. In this critical juncture of our nation's history, where reproductive rights are being torn away, I stand firm in my commitment to championing the fundamental rights of reproductive freedom and health care access. Together, we will defy the forces undermining our autonomy and ensure a future where choice is not just protected but celebrated.I will continue to stand with Planned Parenthood and fight to protect these critical health services.”
This endorsement adds to a growing coalition of support for Asatryan’s re-election campaign, reflecting her leadership on issues of equity, public health, and fundamental rights.
