Voters Affirm Proven Leadership, Integrity, and a Record of Delivering Results for Glendale

GLENDALE, CA. — Glendale voters have re-elected Councilmember and former Mayor Elen Asatryan to the Glendale City Council by a commanding margin, securing one of three available seats and earning 17,323 votes in one of the most competitive municipal races in the city’s history.

“To every resident who believed in our vision, volunteered, knocked on doors, made phone calls, displayed a yard sign, contributed to our campaign, or cast a vote—thank you. I am deeply honored by your trust and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the city that has given my family and me everything,” Asatryan said.

Since being elected to the Glendale City Council in 2022, Councilmember Asatryan has built a strong record of delivering on her promises to residents and small businesses. She has championed affordability, public safety, and government transparency while leading efforts to cut bureaucratic red tape, expand parks, arts, and green spaces, and advance initiatives that support women, girls, and youth. Throughout her first term, she prioritized making City Hall work for everyday people and small businesses—not just the well-connected—by advocating for a more responsive, accessible, and accountable government that delivers results.

Asatryan’s re-election represents not only a validation of her record but also a clear mandate from voters who chose experience. Voters rejected division, misinformation, and political gamesmanship, instead choosing experienced, independent leadership grounded in accountability and accessibility.

Throughout her first term, Asatryan established herself as one of the council’s most independent voices, willing to stand alone when necessary. She cast the lone vote against last year’s city budget, citing concerns over cuts to public safety, permitting and economic development functions, communications, and the complete absence of investment in programs serving women and girls.

Asatryan will also remain the only woman serving on the Glendale City Council. Throughout her tenure, she has emphasized that issues impacting women and girls must be intentionally considered in the city's policies, programs, and investments.

"Being the only woman on the dais is a responsibility I carry seriously," said Asatryan. "Issues impacting women and girls cannot be policy or investment afterthoughts. Every decision we make—from public safety and workforce development, parks to housing, economic opportunity, and city services—affects women and girls, and they deserve to be intentionally considered, represented, and invested in. But this responsibility does not belong to women alone. Every leader, regardless of gender, has a responsibility to champion policies that uplift women and girls because stronger outcomes for women and girls strengthen our entire community. I will continue to ensure their voices are heard and their needs remain a priority."

Asatryan was also the sole vote against renewing the City Attorney’s contract and the only Councilmember to abstain from the City Manager’s contract renewal, arguing that accountability, measurable performance improvements, and fiscal responsibility should come before contract extensions and executive pay increases at a time when departments and community programs were facing cuts.

Despite facing a crowded field of 12 candidates, heavily self-funded opponents, organized special interest opposition, and years of politically motivated attacks, Asatryan earned voters’ trust by remaining steadfast in her values, keeping her promises, and consistently putting Glendale residents before politics.

Over the past four years, she has remained focused on the work: strengthening public safety, improving city services, supporting small businesses, and delivering results for Glendale residents.

That record earned endorsements from a broad coalition of organizations, elected officials, and community leaders, including U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Congresswoman Laura Friedman, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and the rare early joint endorsement of both the Glendale Police Officers Association and Glendale Firefighters Local 776, as well as more than 320 additional organizations, elected officials, and community leaders. Her accomplishments also include championing economic development and government efficiency as citywide priorities, expanding affordable housing opportunities, supporting seniors and veterans, creating youth seats on city commissions, advocating for women and girls, and helping make Glendale one of the safest cities in America.

As the daughter of immigrants and the first Armenian-American woman and first immigrant woman elected to the Glendale City Council, Asatryan has been a leading advocate for immigrant communities and residents facing language barriers. Throughout her time in office, she has pushed for greater multilingual access to city services and information, worked to make local government more accessible and responsive, and fought to ensure every resident can participate in civic life, regardless of the language they speak.

“Glendale is strongest when every resident feels seen, heard, and valued,” said Asatryan. “Whether you have lived here for generations or arrived recently, whether English is your first language or not, this city belongs to all of us.”

Her commitment to strengthening community ties has also led to expanded family-friendly events, cultural celebrations, youth engagement opportunities, and programs that bring residents together and foster a stronger sense of belonging throughout Glendale.

“I remain as committed today as I was on my first day in office, and I look forward to continuing the work of building a safer, more affordable, more inclusive, and more vibrant Glendale for everyone who calls our city home.”
