Glendale, CA — The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) has officially endorsed Councilwoman Elen Asatryan for re-election to the Glendale City Council, recognizing her leadership and proven record of advancing policies that support women, families, and working people. She’s currently the only woman serving on the city council and the 7th woman in the history of the city to do so.
The NWPC, a leading national organization dedicated to increasing women’s participation in politics and electing pro-choice women to office, highlighted Councilwoman Asatryan’s commitment to equity, representation, and opportunity for all.
Councilwoman Asatryan made history as the first Armenian-American woman, first immigrant woman, and youngest woman elected to the Glendale City Council. During her tenure, she has prioritized policies that uplift working families, support small businesses, and ensure that local government reflects and serves the full diversity of the community.
As a proven leader with 26 years of policy and advocacy experience, and as the first Armenian woman to serve as Mayor of Glendale, Asatryan has a track record of successfully championing:
Expanding the role and impact of Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women after a three-year effort to restore and strengthen its authority.
Family leave for employees and introduced exploring menstrual leave.
Launching the City’s Women’s Fire Academy to create pathways for women in public safety and addressing underrepresentation in the fire department.
Guiding Glendale to become one of the first cities in California to sign the Equal Pay Pledge.
Establishing scholarships, training programs, and initiatives to retain and promote women employees in city government.
Advancing city programming recognizing Women’s History Month, Women’s Equality Day, and other initiatives that celebrate women’s leadership.
Reinstating the Glendale Domestic Violence Task Force
Mentoring and recruiting women and young girls into advocacy, public service, and leadership roles over the past two decades.
Partnering with organizations including YWCA Glendale, NARAL, and NOW to educate the community on reproductive health, abortion access, and gender equity.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the National Women’s Political Caucus,” Councilwoman Asatryan said. “I’m done with empty calls for women’s support that aren’t backed by real policies, programming, and budget priorities. Women and girls deserve more than supportive rhetoric. We deserve real investment, real opportunity, and leadership that delivers. That’s the standard I’ve set in this role, and it’s the work I’m committed to continuing—especially at a time when women’s rights and representation are under threat.”
The endorsement comes as part of NWPC’s ongoing efforts to support women leaders who are breaking barriers and building pathways for the next generation.
