Burbank Teachers Association President Diana Abasta Backs Elen for DCCC

Burbank, CA – Burbank Teachers Association President Diana Abasta announced her endorsement of Elen Asatryan for the Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC) representing the 43rd Assembly District.

“Elen is a fierce advocate and will represent us well on the Democratic County Central Committee. I am proud to endorse and support her, “ stated Abasta.

In response, Asatryan noted on the campaigns social media platforms, “Teachers are our greatest treasures and public servants who shape the future generations. I’m grateful for the support of Burbank Teachers Association President Diana Abasta,”

Asatryan went on and recalled some of the teachers who’ve made a significant impact in her life.

“Remembering some of the amazing teachers I’ve had who nurtured, educated and invested beyond what was required of them, without whom I wouldn’t be where I am today – Mrs. Petta (4th grade) Mr. Vahe (5th grade) at Columbus Elementary, Mr. Crosby (10th grade) and Mrs. Samore (11th grade) at Hoover High School.”

Spanning over two decades, Asatryan’s activism dates back to her middle school days when she spoke out to address discrimination issues at her school and in her city during City Council and Board of Education meetings. Her driving force has always been to leave a positive footprint for future generations, fight for social justice, human rights and equity, and empower and protect the rights of women, minorities, the working class and small businesses.

Elen has a long standing track record in working close with school districts, board members, administrators, students and teachers associations – from the Glendale Teachers Association to UTLA.  In January and February of 2019, she joined teachers at the picket line from Los Angeles, CA to Denver CO to stand in solidarity demanding pay raise for teachers and reduction in class sizes.

The election for the Democratic County Central Committee will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Registered Democrats residing in State Assembly District 43, and those who have declined to state a political party but have requested a Democratic ballot, will see Asatryan’s name on their ballot. The DCCC is the official governing body of the Democratic Party in Los Angeles County. It is also the largest local Democratic Party entity in the United States, representing nearly 2.7 million Democrats in the 88 cities and the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County – a population larger than 42 individual states.

The 43rd State Assembly District encompasses the cities of Burbank, Glendale, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta-Montrose, and parts of Los Angeles including Hollywood Hills, East Hollywood, Little Armenia, Franklin Hills, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, and Atwater Village (90027, 90029, 90068 and most of 90039).
